Ethically, with dog training my goal is that my dog experiences as little pain or discomfort as possible which aversive tools are specifically designed to cause discomfort, which is why it works. Scientifically using those type of training tools is proven to increase stress and anxiety in dogs, while the results look cool and flashy the dogs can be fairly stressed out using them. They also can lead to fallout which is essentially the tools not working and the dog becoming aggressive to dogs and or humans because of the use of tools. The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior recommends the use of only Positive Reinforcement even in cases of severe aggression.
If you are not sure which training path to go down with your dog I would recommend a consultation. In general if you want to work on specific home behaviors or reactivity I would do private lessons or drop in training.
